What's on your iPod? Please!

Runners, weigh in. I need you.

Rob and I are running the National half marathon in D.C. this month, and my running mix is in desperate need of updating. What I'm saying is that I'm not at all properly trained for this race, and I need some serious musical help getting me through the 13.1 miles.

My current mix hasn't changed much over the years - it's mostly old Counting Crows, some tracks from the All That You Can't Leave Behind U2 album, and a few other similar random things. I love thinking about all the trails and races I've run to those tunes every time they come up on the Nano. But during my long run last Saturday, they weren't quite enough to get me through the miles. Help!

Recommendations?

Putting together the playlist for race day is an important ritual and a key to a successful run.
Some of my standards for race day:

Light the Fire Within - Leanne Rimes (this is always my first track!).
Crunchy Granola Suite - Neil Diamond live from Hot August Night (usually #2).
A series of live Paul Simon songs, always concluding with Cool, Cool River.
The complete Suite for Orchestra and Choir from The Mission - Ennio Morricone.
At least one complete Broadway soundtrack (Joseph, Les Miz, Phantom, The Music Man, or Wicked).
Rule Brittannia/Jerusalem, live from Last Night of the Proms (I like to time things to end with this one - it brings tears to your eyes even when you're not running!)

Try some REO Speedwagon, there is one called "Keep Pushing" which I would let run through my head over and over again after the half way point in my cross country races in High School.

oh heavens. i know the importance of good running music. that was probably 90% of the reason i was able to train all summer for st. george. easier to just send you a cd.
